Beauty. Magic. Power. What do you get when you combine these with coming of age and identifying as a girl in this day and age?

The answer is something we’ve strived to think about in our work. The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton is an enchanting fantasy about girls with the power to manipulate beauty. Bruja Born by Zoraida Córdova is an urban fantasy novel about a bruja (witch) who raises the dead in an attempt to save the boy she loves. Both books dig into the idea of power and the risks one is willing to take in order to achieve their biggest desire.

The Belles and Brujas Tour is a grassroots and the first of its kind. Kicking off in Boston, we will be visiting a total of 13 cities. Along the way, we’ll have special guests like Victoria Schwab, Justina Ireland, and Nicola Yoon, whose books emphasize the different ways teens wield power and contribute to the mission started by We Need Diverse Books. Each panel will feature the kind of honest discussions only friends can have. We’re ready to get real and we want you to participate and share this journey with us.
